toothy peg

Updated: Nov 5, 2019

Its happened , wee one has cut her first tooth, mainly on her dads thumb and anything she could shove in her gob. There was dribble and drool like I've not seen in a while amounting in chin rash and funny spots all over her face. There was massive ear pulling, and red rosy cheeks that would put Santa to shame. Boy was she grumpy and it really hurt , she squealed like I have not heard her do. And the tears , little ones squeezed out as she cried, enough to break any mothers heart.

We teetha ( the green packet , although other brands out there Ive found categorically over the years for these to be the best ) which helped to take the edge off and let her catnap and we calpol'd to help her sleep the night.

We invested in the jelly teething toys, god send , put them in the fridge or freezer and then let them go to town on them. Its wonderful for sore gums and tired Mums.

I really do respect these wee ones on this journey. Yes, it is that have the grumpy and don't know why their mouths hurt wee ones. And us that change the nappies that run out the sides and up the back at times. We are forever wringing out bibs and mopping chins of what seems like an exordinet amount of siliva ( how do they make so much ) But all the while we know whats going on. They do not . They are too little to explain and have to just endure this stage of life, I guess that is why it happens so early on so they don't remember it. All we can do is cuddle, reassure , medicate and mop them through it.. if there is sunshine get their wee booties out in it.

But she is so proud and ready show everyone her newest edition, and we both know ( it not being our first rodeos ) that this is the beginning to a rocky road for a while, the next tooth is already cutting, the others will be moving and jostling for position like horses in the boxes at the races, the molars, oh the molars they are the most painful poor wee things. But we are ready. we have bought shares in the medication companies, stocked up on powder and battended down the hatches for the ride.

It is funny that they go through all of this , and then once they are used to teeth and food and all that , the dam things start dropping out and they start all over again. Human bodies are weird and wonderful.

So if you too are coming up, going through and or come out the other end of this milestone of your wee ones lives, I salute you and your baby that you will make , are making it and did make it through. x
